You must have read or heard about the fairy tale of Snow White. Where the evil Queen constantly inquired from the talking mirror:
“Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?”
Each time, the mirror would respond, “Thou, O Queen, art the fairest in the land.” But over the years, Snow White grew into womanhood and her beauty transcended every other woman in the kingdom. Came the day when the mirror said to the Queen, “Snow White, O Queen, is the fairest of them all.”
This marked the hatred and oppression of Snow White.
The book of Job is an allegory of life with Job as the subject - sufferings, the author of sufferings (satan), Job's friends and the Master of the Universe, God.
Job after listening to his friends, Eliphaz, Bildad & Zophar for a bit, went on several rants against God.
This was as a result of the picture of Job’s past his friends painted, as well as the picture of his present he could see.
You've shriveled me like a dried prune,
showing the world that you're against me.
My gaunt face stares back at me from the mirror,
a mute witness to your treatment of me. - Job 16:8 (MSG)
The above verse is just one out of many. At times we go through things that the only vision of ourself we have is that of a vile, wretched man.
Eventually, the youngest friend, Elihu, spoke up. Elihu painted the correct picture of God to Job and reprimanded him for falsely accusing God, this was a perfect pre-cursor to God’s speech to Job. God then spoke and questioned Job, he quickly realised his slander and repented and we all know how the story ends.
I believe God allowed this book to be included as part of the biblical compilation. As it is the story of life, even for the believer, as God never told us we will be free of problems in this life.
Lessons we need to learn is that the enemy should be properly identified, God isn’t our enemy, satan is.
Secondly, we should not look at ourself through the lens of people around us.
Never form the wrong opinion of God based on our circumstances and blame Him for evil in the world.
Whenever we have the right perception of God and who He is, we will have the right perception of ourselves and who we are in Him.
We have a mirror without a shadow of turning in it.
A mirror that doesn’t determine my future based on my present.
A mirror that doesn’t see us as we are but as Christ is.
A mirror that shows us as glorified.
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. - 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV)
The bible, the Word which is Christ, is that Mirror!
